I just finished 8 years of teaching middle school. Here’s a message for my students…or a message from a Millennial to Gen Z.
First, I offer an apology to the students I had from 2014 – 2019 and a special thanks to the class of 2022 (who were my 8th graders back in 2017) for alerting me that I needed to make some changes to my teaching style. Next, I give my students three life lessons that I have learned:
- Don’t work hard all the time. For more on this, read Laziness Does Not Exist.
- When it comes to college admissions, YOU have all the power…NOT the colleges!
- Be politically active in the ways that are right for you.
Thank you, students, for the privilege of getting to teach you. I care about each and every one of you, and I thank YOU for the things you’ve taught me. If you need me, I’m here on the Internet making silly videos!
