Here is the transcription of my most recent video blog:
(And here’s the audio on AnchorFM)
Hey everybody, this is Queen Mab, and today, I’m just gonna give you a little update on my solo show and how my preparations are going for my next performance, which is gonna be on October 19 as part of Binge Fringe Festival at the Santa Monica Playhouse. And you can see that in person if you’re in the LA area, or they’re also going to stream it online, and guess what? It’s FREE! So I will put a link to that below.
I’ve made all my cuts. I’m feeling pretty good about them. I was able to run through a few of them from memory this evening, which was great! And since I was running the ending, it meant that I also had to practice my chair dance. Yes – there is a chair dance in my show about consent. Welcome to my sick brain!
Now, I’ve really had a good time working on this, and I want to do a special shout out to my friend Pamela Najera, who choreographed it for me. And working with Pamela on this dance, I really gained an appreciation for how difficult it is to be sexy. Like, it’s really hard. And it’s really a lot of work. And I remember Pamela saying to me, “Okay, so while you’re doing this, be careful about what your face looks like, because when I make a sexy face, I usually just look constipated.” And I think I have the exact same problem.
And then I started to wonder, “You know, do men have to work this hard in order to be sexy and appealing to us?” And I think the answer to that might be “no.” And if I talk about that too much, I think I’m gonna get a little frustrated.
The other thing is, I’m doing my chair dance in tennis shoes, which…that’s about what my feet can handle. A friend of mine suggested that it might be easier to be sexy were I wearing heels. That’s a whole other rant for a whole other day. But hey, did anybody catch in that last episode of Ted Lasso – sorry to reference it again – but, the one Mexican player who was whining the…Dani Rojas! That’s it! Dani Rojas was whining the whole time about wearing his dress shoes. And I had to work very hard not to vomit during that, because I’m sorry – I have very little empathy for the pain that men feel when they wear dress shoes. Anyways…
Anyways!! I was talking about my show, and about my dance, and that’s what I want to stick to. So I’m gonna leave you with a little, like, 11 second teaser of my chair dance. I’m not gonna show you the whole thing. If you want to see it, you’ve got to watch my show on October 19. I hope to see you there.
