Here’s my interview with music journalist Enrique Lopetegui. We discussed his new book “Nobody Told Me Nada: Latin Pop, Llama Poop, and Other Unexpected Writings” along with a variety of other exciting topics, including but not limited to:
- How a poorly written article about karate sparked Enrique’s journalism career,
- How Enrique became a Hare Krishna after moving to East Texas from Montevideo, Uruguay,
- What Enrique learned from working with journalists in the U.S.,
- The origins of the llama poop in the title of his book,
- And the reason that Enrique gets mad if I make fun of Uruguayan footballer Luis Suarez!
Full disclosure: I provided editorial assistance for the introduction of Enrique’s book. I’ve also written about his first book, Ruta Alterna, in the San Diego Troubadour. Enrique got in touch with me after my Uruguay song was featured on the YouTube show “Tiranos Temblad,” and he’s been an invaluable resource for learning about the music of Uruguay and Latin America as a whole.
